Limehouse Cut Lighting Scheme; Bow Common Lane Bridge

Description
Commissioned by British Waterways, London

Target: Bpa worked with British Waterways London to design and install innovative lighting schemes to a total of eight bridges and a unique section of floating towpath along the Limehouse Cut, east London. The scheme was intended to enhance amenity and security for towpath users, reducing crime and the fear of crime, and also to provide an imaginative display after dark at each of these key locations. This bridge parapet scheme, shown here as a visualisation and subsequently installed by Bpa, features 12 vibrantly coloured vertical 'bars' of light comprised of cold cathode lamps mounted in polycarbonate housings and arranged in an abstract pattern, designed to resonate with the structural design of the bridge itself and provide a contemporary and eyecatching display.

Achievement: The scheme has won praise from local people and has succeeded in its stated aims.
