Limehouse Cut Lighting Scheme; Commercial Road Underbridge & Towpath Scheme
Description
Commissioned by British Waterways, London
Target: Bpa worked with British Waterways London to design and install innovative lighting schemes to a total of eight bridges and a unique section of floating towpath along the Limehouse Cut, east London. The scheme was intended to enhance amenity and security for towpath users, reducing crime and the fear of crime, and also to provide an imaginative display after dark at each of these key locations. This bridge is lit using a number of blue LED projectors, mounted on the offside for security reasons, designed to illuminate the brick barrel-vaulted arch, combined with vandal resistant compact fluorescent 'brick lights' integrated into the low retaining wall for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists.
Achievement: The scheme has won praise from local people and has succeeded in its stated aims.
