Limehouse Cut Lighting Scheme; A12 Bridge and Floating Towpath
Description
Commissioned by British Waterways, London
Target: Bpa worked with British Waterways London to design and install innovative lighting schemes to a total of eight bridges and a unique section of floating towpath along the Limehouse Cut, east London. The scheme was intended to enhance amenity and security for towpath users, reducing crime and the fear of crime, and also to provide an imaginative display after dark at each of these key locations. The A12 underbridge is lit using a number of narrow beam projectors, mounted on the offside for security reasons, and fitted with special filters to cast interesting effects on the concrete underdeck. The floating towpath, newly installed to provide pedestrian and cyclist access under the bridge, was lit with a total of 76 gelled weatherproof T5 fluorescent fittings securely integrated into the deck.
Achievement: The scheme has won praise from local people and has succeeded in its stated aims.
