 Oval Road, Camden, Underbridge Lighting
Description
Commissioned by Camden Town Centre Management
Target: A £250,000 scheme, installed and partly designed by Bpa, covering about a kilometre of towpath and nine canal underbridge locations in the Camden Lock area. The aim was to create an imaginative scheme for this vibrant area of London which would also enhance amenity and safety for towpath users and help reduce crime and the fear of crime. This simple but effective scheme used nine filtered projectors, mounted within the barrel vaulted underdeck to highlight this architectural feature and cast light onto the towpath for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists.
Achievement: The scheme has become a much talked about feature of the area and is reported to have succeeded in its community safety objectives. Winner of London Regional Association of Town Centre Managers Award in 2006.
