Regent's Canal Lighting Scheme; Towpath Lighting
Description
Commissioned by Camden Town Centre Management
Target: A £250,000 scheme, installed and partly designed by Bpa, covering about a kilometre of towpath and nine canal underbridge locations in the Camden Lock area. The aim was to create an imaginative scheme for this vibrant area of London which would also enhance amenity and safety for towpath users and help reduce crime and the fear of crime. Approximately one kilometre of towpath lighting was installed by Bpa, between Gloucester Avenue and St Pancras Way, using high efficiency designer fittings mounted in a combination of column, in-ground and wall positions, and designed by Equation.
Achievement: A particularly challenging project due to awkward access and difficult ground conditions along the towpath with many existing services and obstructions, and also the lack of available power connection points. The scheme is reported to have succeeded in its community safety objectives. Winner of London Regional Association of Town Centre Managers Award in 2006.
