Regent's Canal Lighting Scheme; Towpath Lighting
Technical and Maintenance
Equipment used: Fifty nine 35 and 70 watt ceramic discharge lanterns with special pathway optics, mounted on a combination of columns and wall brackets along the towpath. Also eleven 70 watt in-ground luminaires positioned under trees. We installed, and arranged for connection of, new street feeder pillars at various positions along the highways above the towpath to provide power as there was no suitable existing supply at towpath level.
Approximate running costs: Assuming an electricity supply price of 10p per kilowatt hour then 34p per hour giving an annual running cost of £1500 based on an average burning time of 12 hours per day. Two year re-lamping and cleaning cycle.
